Cuisine American
- 1 XL can (or 2 38 ounce cans) Italian Green Beans I use Allen's brand
- 1½ cups chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon chicken base
- 1 shallot chopped very fine
- 4 slices bacon
- salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste
Drain and rinse the Italian green beans.
Fry bacon in the bottom of a medium saucepan. Remove when brown and crispy and set aside. Turn the heat off. Now add in shallot and a bunch of freshly ground black pepper to the bacon grease in the pan. The residual heat will slowly cook the shallots. Stir to distribute heat throughout and scrape up any bacon bits from the bottom of the pan. When shallots are softened, add in the chicken base. Stir well until the chicken base is incorporated. Now add in the green beans as well as the chicken broth and a sprinkle of garlic powder. Add a bit more black pepper if desired. Stir.
Now turn the heat back on to medium heat. Cook uncovered for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until a good bit of the liquid has evaporated. At this point taste for salt and pepper and add as needed. To serve, stir in or sprinkle the reserved bacon bits over the top of the beans and load your plate up! Enjoy!
