Garlic Chive Butter Board

Garlic Chive Butter Board

Love the way this Garlic Chive Butter Board can be put together in a flash! If you can make a simple compound butter, you can easily make this board. I like to keep a batch of the Garlic Chive Butter stored in the freezer. That way it is on hand for last minute entertaining or a simple before-dinner snack with wine. The butter is also good on steamed veggies or baked potatoes. Just saying!

I enjoy putting together all kinds of boards for different types of get togethers, small or large. When I first started seeing butter boards online I was all in! A bit of a twist on the simple bread dipped in olive oil with spices (which, by the way, I absolutely LOVE). The butter boards and cream cheese boards are popular because of their infinite flavor possibilites, both sweet and savory. In addition, they are SO easy to assemble! You don’t have to put in a ton of effort to get a great board.

Something to note: you MUST start with a good butter. After all, that is the star of this Garlic Chive Butter Board! I prefer to use grass-fed butter, such as Kerrygold. It is a better quality butter, and frankly, it just tastes better than your standard grocery store stick of butter! One of my mottos of cooking/baking is to always use the best quality food items that I can find. The smaller the ingredient list, the more important the quality of those ingredients is. Your food will taste better.

Another thing to note: and this one is just my own personal preference– I do not put butter directly on my wooden or marble boards. I always use a seperate container or bowl for my butters, creamy cheeses, etc. I just do not like dealing with the clean up of a wooden or marble board smeared with butter and also don’t want to risk permanently staining a darker or lighter board. Not saying you can’t do it, I just don’t do it. Instead, I have a few beautiful stainless Nambe trays and bowls that I use when working with butters and creamy cheeses on my boards.

If you haven’t yet tried a butter board, try this one! Easy and yummy!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup grass fed butter such as Kerrygold, at room temperature
  • 1/4 tsp good quality garlic powder
  • 1-2 Tbsp fresh chives reserve a bit for garnish
  • assorted bread items such as parmesan bread rounds, sesame covered bread sticks, Italian bread, pretzel sticks
  • herbs such as sage leaves or rosemary sprigs, grape tomatoes, sprinkle of crushed red pepper for garnish

Instructions

  • Prepare the compound butter: place softened butter in bowl of a standing mixer with the paddle attachment and beat until creamy. Add the garlic powder and chives, reserving a bit of chives for the garnish. I have also used dried chives for this. If you are using dried chives, use about 1 tablespoon.
  • Using a spreading or butter knife, smear the butter on one side of platter or board, leaving about half of the board available for your dipping items. It doesn't need to look perfect. In fact, you want to have swells and slightly uneven areas as this adds texture to the board.
  • Arrange your other food items on the board next to the butter, packing them close to the butter so that there is no open space on the platter. For my board I used a combination of parmesan rounds from the deli, slices of a thin baguette, smoked gouda pretzels, and sesame covered bread sticks. I placed the bread sticks in a seperate cup next to the board, along with a wooden serving knife.
  • Garnish by sprinkling chives and crushed red pepper on the garlic chive butter, and placing herbs such as sage leaves or rosemary sprigs as well as a few grape tomatoes around the board for color. Enjoy!
