Italian Shredded Beef & Provolone Hoagies
These flavorful, cheesy Italian Shredded Beef & Provolone Hoagies are so delicious! And cooking them in a slow cooker all day makes them super easy and something to look forward to after a busy day. Using a chuck roast ensures that the meat will be tender and juicy. And the fragrant spices that it cooks in all day….YUM! Top these babies with some smoky slices of provolone cheese and then broil to perfection. You will NOT be disappointed and neither will your family and friends!
When my kids were growing up they were involved in so many after school sports and activities! It was such great fun but those busy schedules also meant that we were not home most evenings until late. I had to have an arsenal of recipes such as this one so that we could all have dinner together no matter what. We occasionally went out or did the drive thru thing during a busy week, but not often! I worked on making delicious food so that my kids would rather have my food instead of restaurant/drive thru food. And if a dish was easy for me and they enjoyed it too, well all the better!
Italian Shredded Beef & Provolone Hoagies are an excellent example of a winning recipe for me – easy to put together and everyone loves them! I like to serve these yummy sandwiches with some sweet potato fries and my Favorite Italian Green Salad with Avocado. Side note: Leftovers of the shredded beef freeze really well. Or another option for any leftover beef– it is simply wonderful in a quesadilla with some shredded cheddar and pepper jack cheese! With the quesadillas I serve my rice and some refried beans. So good!
Italian Shredded Beef & Provolone Hoagies
Ingredients
- 1 3-5 pound chuck roast trimmed of excess fat
- 1 package Good Seasons Itailan dressing mix
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt can substitute 1 teaspoon table salt
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ¼ to ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes to taste
- 3 cups water
- sliced provolone cheese
- soft hoagie rolls or buns
- dried parsley optional, to sprinkle over sandwiches right before serving
Instructions
- Combine all seasonings with the Good Seasons Italian dressing mix in a small bowl.Place roast in the bottom of a slow cooker and rub seasonings over the meat.Pour the water over the seasoned roast.
- Cover and cook on high for one hour, then 8 hours on low until the roast is tender and falling apart.
- When done, remove meat onto a plate. Shred the meat, discarding any large pieces of fat. Return meat to the crock pot to keep warm.
- To make the hoagies, lay open the hoagie buns on a baking sheet covered in foil for easy clean up. Using tongs, drain meat well and place evenly onto buns. Cover with the sliced provolone cheese. I like to use about two slices per hoagie.
- Place hoagies under broiler in the oven and broil until cheese is melted. Sprinkle with a bit of dried parsley, if desired. Serve with potato chips or sweet potato fries and a green salad. Any leftover meat freezes well. Enjoy!
